Islanders cutdown Timbermen

Delta Islanders Jon Phillips closes in on Nanaimo’s Daryl DeFreitas during last Saturday’s B.C. Junior “A” Lacrosse League game at the Ladner Leisure Centre. The Delta Lacrosse product had six points, including a hat trick as the Islanders pulled away over the final two periods for a 19-12 victory to improve to 5-1-0 on the season. Evan Messenger took over the league lead in scoring with a nine-point outing including six goals. Chase Fraser also had a big night with six points (3-3), while Spencer Bromley scored four goals and added one assist. Rookie Riley Phillips chipped in with five points, including a pair of goals. Jayden Campbell also scored. The same two teams meet again Sunday in Nanaimo. The Islanders then return to Ladner May 28 for a key encounter with the New West Salmonbellies.
